O trabalho de Léo Blair Halliwell e Jessie Rowley Halliwell e suas contribuições para o estabelecimento do adventismo na região amazônica

A história do adventismo no Brasil está diretamente conectada ao trabalho de missionários estrangeiros que buscavam expandir a igreja no território. Entre estes, destaca-se o casal Leo e Jessie Halliwell, ambos reconhecidos nacionalmente pela assistência às comunidades isoladas da Amazônia nos anos de 1928 a 1958. Ambos chegaram ao Brasil em 1921, porém começaram suas atividades de expansão na região norte do Brasil em 1928. O trabalho dos Halliwell levou ao crescimento considerável de igrejas, instituições educacionais e de saúde em toda a região, sendo o casal condecorado em 1958 com a Comenda da Ordem do Cruzeiro do Sul, oferecida apenas a estrangeiros pelo serviço relevante à pátria. A metodologia utilizada neste artigo foi a análise bibliográfica. Os artigos de Plenc (2021) e Streithorst (1979) serviram de base para compreender o tema, além de documentos da Igreja Adventista do
Sétimo Dia, que apresenta os números anuais do crescimento do adventismo no Brasil. Como resultado, percebe-se uma taxa de crescimento de membros de 16% ao ano, além da construção de 15 escolas denominacionais e 20 igrejas. O número de adventistas nesse período cresceu de 18 a 2590 membros na região.
